Pumpkin Spice

Love it or loathe it, tis the season of everything pumpkin & spiced! Personally, despite how over commercialised it may be, I still love the combination of pumpkin & sweet spices. What I don’t love however is the extortionate hike in price you can see on anything with the words ‘pumpkin spice’ attached to it. Fear not, you can quite easily make up a blend of your own to add to anything & everything you like this pumpkin season.

It’s really not quite as fancy or complicated as it’s made out to be, just a sweet, spicy blend of store cupboard spices. I’m not even sure that you can really call this one a recipe but I thought I’d share my favourite blend here for anyone that wants to give it a go. I like mine on the spicer side so keep a high ratio of ginger in this. Pair this pumpkin spice with anything squash or pumpkin based for all the cosy feels, or try it in a hot chocolate, a steaming bowl of porridge in the morning or add some ribbon & a pretty label, it’ll make a lovely homemade gift. This can easily be scaled up or down depending on how much you need for a recipe, try it in this sweet pumpkin spice cake.
